This series consists of transcripts from Congressional briefings on foreign policy and other issues held at the White House during the Johnson presidency. President Johnson attended and spoke at most of the briefings on Vietnam. Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara usually spoke at the briefings, while Under Secretary of State George Ball, National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy, Vice President Hubert Humphrey, and other administration members briefed the Congressmen. The transcripts represent the portions of the briefings and question-and-answer periods that dealt with Vietnam.

McGeorge Bundy (1919-1996) was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the national security advisor to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He attended school at private institutions, including Dexter, Groton, and Yale University, from which he graduated first in his class with a degree in mathematics.
